Gastric bubble

A gastric bubble is the normal pocket of air in the stomach, usually located in the fundus (the upper part of the stomach). On an upright chest or abdominal X-ray, it typically appears as a dark (radiolucent) round or oval area beneath the left hemidiaphragm. It’s commonly seen after swallowing air and is often used as a helpful landmark to confirm normal anatomy and patient positioning.
